Do you think you are suffering from discrimination in your work?

According to Business Insider magazine, 42% of members of the workforce have suffered or witnessed some form of discrimination in their workplace. This is why we believed it was imperative to remind you of some signs that will help you know if you are suffering from discrimination. If you identify with any of them, we will also share with you how you should proceed.

Before sharing these discrimination signs with you, it is essential to remember that this type of behavior could come from your boss or even a colleague. Some signs of job discrimination are:

  • Inappropriate jokes: If a colleague or boss makes jokes about your gender, race, place of origin, or your sexual orientation, you are suffering from discrimination.
  • Minimal diversity: When your employer only hires people of a specific gender, race, or sexual orientation.
  • Role Ruts: It could happen in many ways; an example is that all the secretaries are women and all the partners are men.
  • Negative feedback: If you receive a lot of negative feedback even though you know you are doing your job correctly, it could signify that you are suffering from discrimination.
  • Questionable Interview Methods: Discrimination can happen from the moment of your interview process. If you are a woman and your interviewer asks if you intend to have a family in the future, you could be suffering from discrimination, as asking this question is also illegal.

Did you identify with any of these points? Don’t worry; there is a viable solution to the problem you are facing. This is what you should do:

  1.  Seek legal help
  2. Keep a record of the discrimination
  3. Find a way to diversify your income
  4. If the discrimination does not come from your boss, file a complaint with them
  5. File a claim with human resources
  6. File a claim with EEOC

Don’t let this keep happening to you; get in touch with us. Our team is ready to attend to your case.
